About STALKER Bryan Cutler is obsessed with 17 year old Emily Kaufman. He cannot stay away from her. He knows her every move. Emily's father, a Vietnam veteran and expert marksman, seeks help from a Holocaust survivor and the chief of police. Because Cutler is a minor and there are no stalking laws in 1985, nothing can prevent his downward spiral resulting in rape, murder and suicide. STALKER explores contemporary issues and the impact of life-changing trauma.

A friend mentioned Bill Coulton's Stalker to read for our "Chartreuse Book Club". I expected to give it a quick skim. I am not usually drawn to crime novels or thrillers , and my book group friends are not typical "people who also bought Stalker." So, I jumped into the story and read it right through. I was totally surprised at how much I wanted to slow it down. I was overtaken by its power. I was not prepared to hear Bernice and Jack spit at each other about Bryan, a sharp new topic in their divorce fights. Their bitter words hit my eardrums too hard, as if clearly transmitted from a neighbor's living room. When I read along through a few scenes with no mention of Emily, I became wary. I braced myself, reluctant to turn the page and read more pleading, crude scribbled words hurled at a young girl. On the other hand, I liked reading about Harvey so much that I tasted his bagels and shed my own salty tears in sympathy for his grief over Bryan. I came abruptly to the story's ending. I found it extreme-- a perfect fit for the bare truth of stalking.

Stalker far exceeded my expectations. Bill Coulton wrote about nightmares and yet I felt a warm embrace. This is a book with no missing ingredients! I will strongly recommend it to our group, and I look forward to the discussion.

Stalker Bill Coulton 9781469941103 Books Reviews

Characters come to life in all of Bill Coulton's books and once again STALKER doesn't disappoint. Good and Evil, Love and Hate. Which one will prevail in the end. When Bryan, a young, handsome tormented sociopath becomes involved with Jack Kaufman and his daughter Emily, their lives are changed forever. Jack, military trained to defend his country, must figure out a way to protect his daughter. He struggles with the laws that hold him back when every fiber of his being is pushing him in another direction. Coulton writes with such passion and strength you feel like you are holding on to Jack and Emily, and even Bryan's hand and experiencing their fear, pain and anger and yet realize love is the force that drives them all. It leaves you wondering just how far you would go to protect family, friends and love. Another page turner and winner for Coulton.

Jack Kaufman's fracturing family faces a huge threat when their daughter Emily is stalked by a sociopath. Jack, a Vietnam veteran, knows what he'd like to do, but makes every effort to follow the law yet save his daughter. At first the family is in denial, but even the mother, Bernice, soon to leave Jack and Emily behind, realizes this cannot be dismissed. There is nothing about stalker, Bryan Cutler, which can be called normal.

This well written, well-crafted suspense novel grabs readers by the throat and holds them to the page. Readers will suffer with the family, fear for them, enjoy their inner family dynamic, and root for the delightful seventeen-year-old, a graduating senior with a bright future in the arts--as long as she can live through this escalating crisis. The father daughter love here is a adeptly woven through the plot. It heightens the suspense. We care more for Em because she is the kind of daughter we all would wish for and would go to extremes to protect. Emily has many friends and one mutual friend, Harvey Gold, a bagel master with the wisdom of the ages, but his own demons to deal with.

The story is as well paced as a Harlan Coban book, and as tender and poetic as a Greg Isles' novel. I highly recommend it for any reader who wants to experience the Kaufmans' crises and come out in the sunlight.
The book reminded me of some of my very favorite Hitchcock movies- Rear Window and Psycho. Fans of Hitchcock will enjoy. Well done.
This was a very short read but it was good. The inside prespective of a stalkers thought process was fascinating. I specifically liked that the female character was strong and not a shrinking violet that quivered in her room. Worth the time to read.
An excellent read! Bill Coulton has figured out how to "hook" his audience from page one. When I was forced to put this book down, I couldn't wait to get back to it and find out what was going to happen next. Can't wait for more titles from this author!!
I think Coulton is an under appreciated US author. I read Escape to Madrid which I really like and then got Stalker. This one had me so scared I became very diligent in settingthe alarm system and giving my big dog free roam of the house at night.
I was not expecting to be immediately hooked....but I did not put it down. Having a daughter close to Emily's age made me suffer with her family, root for her, and understand completely the father-daughter bond. The book is well-written, well-paced, and reminds me in certain ways of suspense writers Grisham, Coban, and Patterson.

After learning a little about Bill Coulton's background and family, I could not wait to quiz the delightful author at a book signing about the storyline. He kept me completely intrigued as he told me more about why he wrote the book. Suffice it to say, he is as interesting as his books (this is my 4th).

I highly recommend "Stalker." Be prepared to join the Kaufman's harrowing crisis, then take a long breath at the conclusion. Enjoy.
