Wil has arrived at his sixty-fifth birthday after a directionless, purposeless, friendless lifetime. In the little village of Wisdom which sits close against the Old Forest, the last refuge of the elves before they departed this world many centuries before, he finds a place where he finally feels at home working as the assistant of the village swineherd, Scrubby.
On the other side of the Principality of Gleneagle, the wizard Greyleige has been hoarding the world’s fading magics with the intent of achieving control over the world and the eternal life of the departed elves. The ruling prince’s daughter, Princess Caron, has been tracking Greyleige’s machinations, convinced that he is the danger to the balance of good and evil in the world that was foretold in the family scrolls that were written by their elven ancestors before their departure centuries before.
Fate has put Wil, Caron, Scrubby and Greyleige on a collision course that will determine whether or not evil will overbalance goodness an

I don't normally read books of this type. I somewhat had to read the book because Walt is my brother-in-law, whom I care for tremendously, so I read it to be kind, or so I thought. Half a chapter in and I literally could NOT put the book down! You will fall in love with Princess Caron and Scrubby, and Will! You'll be turning pages so fast. And in the end, like the rest of us, you'll be waiting rather impatiently for the next book to come out. And don't think he's giving family members even any hints about it either!Product details

Wizard Of Wisdom eBook Walter C Conner Reviews
Great story.
Walt Conner has already proven himself to be a gifted writer with this book, in spite of the fact that it is his first published work. The story is full of imagination, excitement and creativity, not to mention endearing characters like Wil, Scrubby and Princess Caron and evil personified in the wizard Greyleige and his underlings. The story was captivating and left me wanting to hear more. Sadly, I'll just have to wait for the sequel, "Princess of Wisdom", coming in the spring of 2012.

Brace yourselves lovers of mystical tales of bygone times and lands that might have been. There's a new kid on the block and his name is Walter C. Conner. Although not a died-in-the-wool fantasy fan myself, I've read several examples (e.g., the Merlin series) and considered them worthy efforts. But I loved this one. Unlike many in the genre who write for children or teens, Connor writes for adults. His characters are three dimensional and their exploits are engrossing and anything but simple. To top it off, if you've had enough of plain vanilla endings, you'll like the one in Wizard of Wisdom.

There couldn’t be a better opening for the Wisdom Chronicles series than Wizard of Wisdom by Walter C. Conner, a work of brilliance and high class entertainment, a powerful promise for a very enjoyable read. From the impressive cast of characters to the dazzling plot and the charm of the writing, Walter C. Conner establishes himself as a master storyteller. A magical, enchanting, and heart stopping tale of the struggle between good and evil, of magic, and what happens when one man gets greedy and wants to use it for personal ends.
Set against the backdrop of an idyllic place called Wisdom, a place nestled at the edge of the old Forest, and a place once occupied by the elves, this magical tale offers readers one of the age-old conflicts the struggle between good and evil. On the one hand, there is the greedy and self-appointed wizard, Greyleige, who wants all the magic of the elves in order to control the entire world. On the other hand is a team of simple-hearted people like the swineherd, Wil, Princess Caron (the unwavering warrior), and Scrubby.
The author immediately draws readers into the story with the powerful, descriptive opening lines. But it’s just the beginning and the author doesn’t give readers a moment’s respite from the powerful spell of his beautiful prose, embellished with flawless and plot-driven dialogue. Wizard of Wisdom might be the kind of tale written for young adults, but like the Harry Potter series, it will become the next phenomenon that will enthrall adult readers. There is a lot to keep readers entertained and rapt in the pages of the book. Walter C. Conner is a master entertainer with a unique voice, a unique gift for plot, and an imagination that will carry readers far, far away from their world and reality.
This book was a very pleasant surprise since I was expecting some mirror version of the Lord of the Rings and the first book of a multi-book series that would use cliffhanger endings to drag me along. I must report that I was wrong thankfully.
The book has a larger than usual cast of characters and opens with Wil waking up in a pig sty (interesting opening) and the novel proceeds to give us a bit of his life then moves on to introduce us to each of the other characters in small pieces while giving us a few clues along the way to the plot and the players.
The next few chapters follow a typical epic fantasy plot (complete with big evil wizard) with all the random pieces (people) coming together and then off to do their parts in the story BUT this is a much more condensed version and there will be a few things that set this one apart from the typical mold (no I am not going to tell you).
Let me say this was a surprise in how good it was, the quality of writing which I thought was excellent may have been covered up by the addictive nature of the story. Throw in a really endearing and naïve character like Scubby, a fighting princess, a reluctant hero, a traveling salesman and a serving wench or two and you do not get a Shannara-like clone but a surprisingly original and enthralling story.
Bottom Line This was a great sword and sorcery type novel; it had an adult feel without being sexual. It hit all the points any really great epic fantasy should hit, mixed in a touch of tragedy, romance and triumph of the human spirit theme thrown in at places. If there was anything negative I should mention it would be the “power of love” speech you get in a place or two that came across as a bit sickly sweet for my tastes but really did not detract from the story. I hope to start the next novel of the four books released so far in the near future, I am curious to see where the author takes this story since he left only a very few stones unturned in this novel.
Next up, “Princess of Wisdom Wisdom Chronicles - Book 2”
